Jaime Kuhn is the founder of The Empowered Companion®, a Certified Companion Animal End-of-Life Doula through the University of Vermont, and an Animal Reiki practitioner and teacher. She supports people through the tender transitions of loving, caring for, and saying goodbye to their animal companions. She also creates space to celebrate our animals' lives, cherish their memories, and honor the lessons, love, joy, and kinship they leave with us.
Having experienced the loss of many beloved companions herself, Jaime understands how deeply their absence can be felt and how meaningful it is to be among people who understand that bond. Her approach is grounded in compassion, presence, and respect for each person’s experience of grief.
In her pet loss support groups, Jaime offers a warm, welcoming space to share stories, honor memories, or simply listen. She also offers experiential gatherings that invite connection and remembrance through sound, meditation, and creative activities. These include Animal Connection Sound Journeys, with select gatherings focused on loss and remembrance, and In Spirit events, which may incorporate activities such as memorial rock painting and personal rituals.
Her groups and gatherings have no religious affiliation. All are welcome, across beliefs, backgrounds, and spiritual or nonspiritual perspectives, with no pressure to speak, feel a certain way, or move through grief on anyone else’s timeline.
Shared reflections from those who have found comfort in our circle.
"The gentleness of this space allowed me to process the loss of my sweet Golden in my own time. There was no pressure, only profound understanding."
- A RECENT ATTENDEE
"I felt so isolated after my cat passed. Being in a room with others who were experiencing the exact same emptiness was the first step in my healing journey."
- WEEKLY CIRCLE MEMBER
"I thought I was overreacting to losing my dog. This community validated my pain and gave me the tools to honor his memory with love instead of just sorrow."
- VIRTUAL PARTICIPANT

Our in-person pet loss support groups meet in a private gathering room at Prodigy Coffeehouse in North Denver, a warm, welcoming space where we can share our stories, remember our animals, and find comfort in community.
Prodigy’s care for the community extends well beyond the coffee cup. Through paid apprenticeships, hands-on learning, and personal development, this local nonprofit helps young adults build skills and confidence for sustainable lives, economic mobility, and meaningful contributions to their city.
We’re grateful to Prodigy for making room for connection and support. If you’d like, purchase a coffee or a bite to eat when you visit - your order helps their work grow while you find support for yourself.
📍 3801 E 40th Avenue, Denver, CO 80205
Ample free street parking and aparking lot is available. You'll find us in the privacy of the community room, to the left of the coffee bar.
Not ready to leave the house or live further away? That is entirely okay. Join our sessions from the safety and comfort of your couch.
Whether you connect via video or opt to phone in, you are welcome exactly as you are - pajamas, blankets, and your resident companions are perfectly acceptable.
Virtual Pet Loss Support Groups begin January 13, 2027 and are offered the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm.
Secure Zoom links and dial-in numbers are provided automatically upon RSVP.
We understand that stepping into a group setting while grieving can feel overwhelming. This is a quiet, zero-pressure environment built entirely on respect for your pace and privacy.
Depending on the preference of each group, we can focus more on sharing stories, learning about grief, or answering thoughtful prompt questions. It's your time - your decision.
Not at all. Your presence alone is enough. You’re welcome to simply sit, listen, and be in a shared space of understanding without ever saying a word.
Yes. What’s shared in the circle stays in the circle. We hold this space as a sacred trust, and confidentiality is one of our most important commitments to you.
Nothing is required. People often ask whether they should bring a photo of their pet or a small memento to share - if it brings you comfort, you’re welcome to bring it. If not, that’s completely okay too. Anything that feels supportive is welcome.
Tears are welcome here. There’s no such thing as being “too emotional” in our circle. You’re always free to step out for a quiet breath and return only when you feel ready.
On another note, laughter and smiles are also welcome as we reminisce and find gratitude. And it's okay if you don't feel much emotion at all, or you feel anger or frustration. Any response you feel is valid.
No, not for the support circle itself. While it could be very comforting for you, it could be very difficult for another participant. Also, while Prodigy Coffeehouse allows animals on the porch, they are not allowed inside the coffee shop or in the private community room.
Neither is “better” - they’re just different. In person can feel more grounding and connected, while online/phone can offer more privacy and ease (especially on harder days). Choose what feels safest right now; you can switch week to week. month to month.
That’s up to the group. I’ll always have a few gentle topics ready in case sharing isn’t in the cards that day - things like what grief can look like, how to navigate anniversaries, and small rituals of remembrance.
Every contribution helps sustain ongoing community support—covering the room rental and virtual platform costs, providing gentle handouts at in-person meetings, and keeping this gathering accessible. No one is ever turned away for lack of funds.
Yes, please. I love to collaborate, and I really appreciate having more support in providing this offering. Have them reach out and we’ll find a good way to connect.
